Start of a project to promote responsible household waste management in communities

I wonder if anyone has ever asked themselves: what kind of life do I want for my children and grandchildren? Do I want my descendants to grow up in a safe, comfortable environment? Do I want my children to be healthy and happy?

Do I want my children to drink clean water, eat environmentally friendly food, and breathe fresh air? Have you asked yourself these questions?

And next: what have I done to ensure that those who will continue my family line drink clean water, eat environmentally friendly food, breathe fresh air, are healthy and happy, are not afraid of the future, and are protected?

These are probably the questions that teachers at the National Transport University and educators in the Dmytrivska territorial community are asking themselves. With the support of the village head, Taras Didych, they have launched an educational campaign on responsible household waste management.

This is a pilot project and will run until June.

The first seminar took place today, February 11, 2025, at the Dmitrov Academic Lyceum “Perspective.” It was attended by school principals and the director of the DMITROGRAD Management Company, Sabina Danchenko. The speakers at the meeting were teachers from the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies at NTU: the head of the department, Professor Viktoriia Khrutba, and Associate Professor Serhiy Kolomiyets.

They were assisted by a student from the Department of Information and Analytical Activities and Information Security, Dmytro Feshchenko.

Scientists told the audience about new trends in legislative and organizational requirements, as well as the specifics of household waste management in amalgamated territorial communities. And since the broadcast was conducted via ZOOM, the information could be seen and heard in other communities of the Kyiv region interested in improving the situation with household waste.

We all understand that we need to change our attitude towards the environment. For decades, people have been systematically destroying what nature has given us. And if we don’t come to our senses today, our children will be forced to live in a completely hostile environment.

But thanks to the implementation of sustainable development policies, widespread in Europe, including at the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development in Germany, and promoted by NTU scientists as part of the TransLearn project, we can make the present and future of ourselves and our descendants promising and friendly.

Therefore, we are infinitely grateful for the wonderful reception and openness to new ideas: the Department of Education of the Dmytrivka Territorial Community and its head, Viktoria Babenko, and the director of the Dmytrivka Lyceum “Perspective,” Oksana Halchuk.

See you again soon! Join our project. Together we are strong! Glory to Ukraine!
