KA220-HED – Partnership in Higher Education, project: Transformational Learning Network for Sustainability – Supporting Ukrainian Higher Education to Ensure Sustainable and Resilient Reconstruction of (Post-War) Ukraine (TransLearnN), Project Number NA DAAD: 2023-1-DE01-KA220-HED-000157119

On April 11-12, 2024, the Consortium’s partner university (Odessa State Environmental University, Odessa, Ukraine) hosted the International Conference “Regional Problems of Environmental Protection and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources.” The round table within the framework of the conference “Analysis of the prerequisites that have developed in the university space for the implementation of the Concept of Sustainable Green Development” was moderated by the project team of the National Transport University (Kyiv, Ukraine). All members of the project teams of Ukrainian partner universities were present: Ukrainian National Forestry University (Lviv); National Transport University (Kyiv); Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University (Zhytomyr); Kharkiv National Automobile and Highway University (Kharkiv); Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding (Mykolaiv); Odessa State Environmental University (Odessa); Priazovsk State Technical University (Mariupol).

During the discussion, participants discussed the European Union’s regulatory framework regarding the role of universities in the transition to a green economy by 2050, the state of information preparedness among the wider university community, and the readiness at the administrative level to implement measures that would facilitate the implementation of the recommendations of the European University Association’s Green Transition Roadmap at all stages of its operation. These issues are in line with the project’s objectives of strengthening the socio-political leadership role of universities in the context of Ukraine’s sustainable reconstruction; supporting Ukrainian universities on the path to sustainable university management; and engaging students as agents of change for sustainable and risk-resistant development. Professor Natalia VNUKOVA presented an analytical report on the current goals and objectives for Ukrainian universities to implement the green transition; develop, improve, and implement Concepts and Strategic Plans for sustainable development. The moderators of the round table, Professors Viktoriia RUTKOVSKA and Viktoria KHRUTBA, provided information on the results of extensive respondent surveys on this topic and noted that, , in general, there is a positive trend in the awareness of educators about the Sustainable Development Strategy 2050 (Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Draft resolutions based on the results of the events were proposed for discussion and approved.
